What the model predicts for What is Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and How Does it Apply to Leadership
The predicted response is strongest at 0:48, leaving aside the first three seconds. Its steepest fall comes between 0:25 and 0:28, where the predicted response falls 26%. The weakest 3-second stretch is 0:36 to 0:39.
After the fall at 0:28 the predicted response comes back up past its pre-fall level by 0:41 (153% of it), the strongest moment after the opening.
Predicted response across the 51 seconds
| Time | Leading network | Predicted response |
|---|
| 0:00–0:08 | Visual | above the clip average |
| 0:08–0:17 | Auditory | well below the clip average |
| 0:17–0:26 | Auditory | below the clip average |
| 0:26–0:34 | Auditory | well below the clip average |
| 0:34–0:42 | Auditory | above the clip average |
| 0:42–0:51 | Visual | well above the clip average (strongest second here) |
Each row is one sixth of the clip. "Leading network" is the network with the highest predicted response in most seconds of that part. Levels are relative to this clip's own average, not comparable across videos.
Which brain networks the video drives
- Visual: visual cortex, which tracks what is on screen. Strongest predicted response at 0:45, leading in 16 of 51 time steps.
- Auditory: auditory cortex, which tracks sound, music and voice. Strongest predicted response at 0:25, leading in 31 of 51 time steps.
- Language: the language network, which tracks spoken and written words. Strongest predicted response at 0:26; it is never the leading network.
- Attention: the attention network, which tracks shifts in what the scene asks the viewer to notice. Strongest predicted response at 0:49, leading in 4 of 51 time steps.
The first three seconds
The opening three seconds average 113% of the predicted response the rest of the clip holds, so the start is higher than what follows. The first seconds of any clip also carry the cortex reacting to the video starting at all, which is why the strongest second above is taken after the opening.
How this breakdown was made
We ran the video through v2neuro, a brain-encoding model trained on fMRI recordings of people watching films. It predicts the group-average response of about 1,000 cortical regions for every step of the video, which we group into four networks. This is a prediction for an average viewer, not a measurement of anyone, and it does not forecast views or watch time. How the scan works · What a cortical response is
